Sunday, September 21, Noon-5PM in Larson Park
It’s going to be held at the Larson Park Pavilion in Webster Groves on Sunday September 21st.
The event will go from Noon until 5PM. You don’t have to show up at noon, or stay there all the way until 5PM! Drop by when you are available, and enjoy some nice food and company.
The park benches are bolted to the ground and cannot be moved. There are benches without tables around the firepit. If you want to bring a chair with a back or just want to make sure you sit at the head of the table, the tables have room on each side.
It’s $10 per adult and $5 per child (age 4+). Please bring exact change or check. Also remember to bring some extra cash if you want to buy some norwegian items.
Program
Since it’s a Sunday and we know many people might have obligations in the morning, we’re holding the event from Noon and until 5PM and people can come and go. There should be food and entertainment all through the event.
There is not really a timed program, but we expect the core hours between 1 and 3pm. Expect:

THE OSTEHØVEL PROGRAM
Take a cheese plane, leave a cheese plane. Everyone needs a proper cheese plane, so if you have too many you can bring one to donate, if you don’t have one please take one from the basket.
- Welcome
- A talk about the bicentennial celebration of Norwegian immigration to the US, “Crossing 200.”
KUBB
Kubb is a very old game, or an early 1900s game depending if you believe the Swedes invented it in the 1930s or the vikings (using skulls and bones).
- A hnefatafl board to try out
- A continously running grill and firepit
PLAYGROUND!
Beware, might be an age limit.
Food and refreshments
The Norwegian Society will supply traditional Norwegian summer foods; hot dogs, lompe, buns, mashed potatoes, soft drinks and paper products/utensils. There will be a firepit going that have the potential to be used for toasted marshmallows.
Soft drinks and water will be provided, and there is also water fountain a few feet from the pavilion.
There will be table ready for your food offerings, as well as a grill with tools and an airfryer in case something needs to be reheated.
Getting there
You can see the tennis courts from Kirkham Road but need to access the pavilion and parking lot from Denver which is a little street off Kirkham.
We will have signs leading to the pavilion. If the parking lot nearest pavilion is full, consider lots off W Kirkham Ave or Harper Ave. It’s flat and easy to walk, and we’ll have signs. There is also some limited street parking on Denver on the west side.
