The Silver Boys

Another Norwegian Christmas tradition is to listen to the Silver Boys (Sølvguttene) on Christmas eve. You can stream these free from the Norwegian state broadcaster NRK:

Sølvguttene synger julen inn – NRK TV (Silver Boys sing Christmas in)

I was in this choir when I was young. My parents had to drive me around to all kinds of events, at malls and private clubs. The main event was recording it on NRK, happening in various churches. This is me:

The worst was when we had real candles, holding it, and some would sometimes faint because we were holding it just under our nose. The procedure was that the two boys standing next to them would bow down and drag them off the stage.

Fresh off the boat, Kristoffer Tjensvoll moved to St Louis January 2024 from Oslo, Norway. His parents hail from the western and middle parts of Norway. He brought his bunad and is ready stay close to his roots here in the US. He got involved with the Norwegian Society of St Louis just before Norway's national day, 17 of may, and joined a small parade and picnic in Tower Grove park. He'll help organise the Christmas tree party this year and hope as many as possible will show up.
